Simon Lofthouse has been President Nominate of Rotary Jersey since 2021. In January 2025 he took over the role of President.
Simon has been very busy with Rotary in the last few years. One of the projects he has been involved with is Life Stories. In association with Dementia Jersey he has been visiting people in care homes and taking down details of their life history, with the assistance of family members. The information is then combined with photographs so that carers and visitors can learn a bit about the person they are caring for. It brings people to life. If you know that someone was a singer or a teacher or that they loved travelling or made pottery, you can speak to them in a far more engaged way about their life.
Simon said "this is a bit of a passion project for me. I have worked with people with dementia or on the path towards it and I really wanted to help people be seen as individuals. The Life Story materials, and especially the pictures, make people real and interesting and they are then more valued. I have been utilising AI to assist me with producing the information for people."
Simon is also arranging a pancake race for this Pancake Day. This will take place in the Royal Square on March 4 2025 and teams can enter for a suggested donation of £20.
